What is going on with my laptop?

My laptop has been having problems.

At first, the only thing that happened was that sometimes, after I closed the laptop to put it in standby and then later opened it, the screen would stay black. The power light would change from yellow to blue as if the computer had successfully resumed. When I moved the mouse or pressed keys, nothing happened, nor when I pressed the power button briefly (as if to take it out of a standby begun through the shutdown menu). Closing the laptop changed nothing; the power light remained blue, and re-opening it would still not wake it up.

Then, the screen started going black in the middle of using the computer, and would be similarly unresponsive. This has been happening with increasing frequency, and seems to mostly happen when I do something that increases the memory load. However, it does not seem to be related to how much the load is increased or how much the total load is; I have had it crash when I clicked the play button on a Youtube video, but I have played Civilization IV for hours with no incident. The problem seems to mainly occur when a new process is started, but it also happens randomly when nothing new is started.

Most recently, I have found that some program settings are reverting entirely to their default values after a crash. This has happened twice now; the first time it was Google Chrome that lost settings, and the second time it happened to both Chrome and Skype.

System: Windows XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3; I am completely up-to-date with Windows Updates

Hardware: Toshiba Satellite A105 -- S4094; all hardware is stock except for an upgraded hard drive

Antivirus: AVG Free Edition 9.0

Browser: Google Chrome

I run CCleaner fairly frequently; I have it clear index.dat, various IE history data, %26quot;Run...%26quot; prompt history, system search autocomplete, other explorer MRUs, recycle bin contents, temporary system files, the clipboard, memory dumps, chkdsk file fragments, windows log files, DNS cache, and various Firefox history data. It also clears data (though it does not specify WHAT data) from Adobe Reader, MS Office Picture Manager, MS Office, OpenOffice, Google Toolbar Firefox, Sun Java, Flash player, Quicktime player, Quicktime player cache, Real player, Windows Media Player, 7-Zip, AVG, WinRAR, MS Paint, Wordpad, and RegEdit. I also use CCleaner to scan the registry for errors and to correct them.

I keep AVG updated, and I run a scan almost daily.

What I usually have running at any given time is Digsby, Skype, and Chrome.

Does anyone know what is going on here?
What is going on with my laptop?
wow could be any number of things, I would start by running some diagnostics tests on the hard drive and memory.

go to : http://www.ultimatebootcd.com and download the UBCD 4.1.1 ISO image and burn that .iso file to a CD using either NERO (right click on fight and select open with and then Nero) OR a program called IMGBurn if you don't have Nero (free download Google it)

this CD is to be booted to by restarting the computer with that CD in the drive and allowing the computer to boot FROM CD.

it may be necessary to go into your BIOS and change the boot order to prioritize the CDROM higher than the Hard drive.

I would suggest running DFT (drive fitness test) first to check out your hard drive. do the advanced test.

and then run memtest86 to check out your ram.

if those pass then you may unfortunately have a bad motherboard or LCD power inverter.

Internet protocol tcp/ipv6 help please?

i was messing with my router settings because my xbox live wouldnt connect.

on my ipv6 menu there was like 6 choices.

---automatically obtain ip address

---use the following ipv6 address

-subnet prefix length

-default gateway

-obtain dns server automtaically

-use the following dns server addresses

-preferred dns server

-alternate dns server

before i messed with it, it had manual settings and it had ip's.

but i changed the choice to automatically obtain ipv6 address and the dns server.

so it got rid of those numbers that were originally there.

and i dont remember those numbers.

how do i get the original numbers back?

because im trying to hook up to xbox live and now it wont connect at all.

so i have a feeling its because i messed with the ipv6 settings.
Internet protocol tcp/ipv6 help please?
Check the router documentation, if you lost it you may be able to find a copy on-line at the manufacturer's web site. They often have a hard reset option (push a recessed button in for 5 seconds or something like that) to reset factory defaults.

Next check with your service provider - if you have a cable modem then contact the cable company's support number. They should be able to tell you what settings you need to connect via their service.

you should take note first the setting before you change it. There is no way you can get back those setting unless you are the one who first set up your router. You only assign obtain if there is DHCP server. In your case we do not know if your modem DHCP is enabled. If it is enabled then obtain will work but if not you need to assign the IP within the range of the IP pool configured in your modem...Try to connect your PC directly to your modem then set up your PC to obtain and then try to command ipconfig. If you get IP add then your modem DHCP is enabled and configuring your router to obtain should have no problem...good luck...jexter@eastern.com.ph

How do I find my alternate mac address? (Xbox 360 related question)?

I'm having trouble connecting to Xbox live. I have the Xbox directly connected to a port in the back of my wireless router, but although my PC that is also connected to the router is getting internet service, my XBOX gets nothing and cannot connect to Live. The ethernet port in the Xbox 360 that usually blinks when it's connected to Live, is blank, nothing. I've attempted to reconfigure the settings to automatic for the IP and DNS to no avail. I've changed it to %26quot;manual setting%26quot; and the only thing I'm missing is my alternate mac address. Where do I find that?

I switched from Verizon, that worked fine, to Time Warner Cable and am now experiencing these troubles.

Thank you for your input!

As it's cable, I suggest you power off your router/modem from the power socket (on the wall) for 1 full minute. Then retry everything again.

open your browser and enter your ip address and go to your router configuration page and look for %26quot;attached devices%26quot; while your xbox is on. it should tell you all of the devices that are attached to your router. it should have ip address, computer name (my xbox shows up blank in the %26quot;Name%26quot; field) and the mac address.

make sure your xbox is on so your router can identify it.

How do i connect to internet on my ipod touch ?

Ipod touch safari can't open the page?

I have had my iPod for about 1 month. I am currently running 1.1.3.. So the wi-fi has worked for me. Well, for about 1 week, my internet connection got lost for my iPod. My family has about 3 laptops, all running the same internet connection. My computer works just fine, as well as the rest. But my iPod touch is having big problems connecting.

I go to the Wi-fi panel in Settings. It shows my network, and so I click it. I enter my WEP code, and everything seems fine. But when I enter safari, or any other app that uses wi-fi, it says, %26quot;Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server.%26quot; Although it says that, the little wi-fi signal up at the status bar is on full blast. So I did some research on why it isn't working. I checked my computers IP address, and it dosen't match the one on my iPod. On my iPod, it starts with 169. On my computer, it starts 153. Same with the subnet mask. There is no Router info, or DNS on the iPod touch network panel. Anyone know how to change the IP address on the iPod for good?

Here is what my page looks like:

if its still in warranty replace it. or apple will probably fix it. that happened with my friends ipod too and apple sent him a new one.
it looks like you don't have a DNS number. Leave it on DHCP and then find your DNS number. If you type it in and when you try safari it says %26quot;sever never stopped responding%26quot; your out of luck. until i figure out what to do.

    PS3 network connection?

can someone please explain to me step by step, how to get connected to internet via ps3 via ethernet, WITHOUT GETTING THE DNS ERROR, i have the mega 105WR router model, any changes i need to make to the router settings, please anything that can help me
    PS3 network connection?
I use wireless for mine, but for ethernet the principal should be the same. If you have other computers connected to the router unplug them. Make sure the router is set to DHCP and not static IP's. Also make sure the router you are using is a home router so it allows more than a single connection and not some hub or switch.

Connect the cable to both the PS3 and the router (assuming the router works with another device here) and go into the options screen for the PS3. Go into the networking portion and create a new connection. It's pretty self explanatory from here. If you have a password you need to make sure you enter the authentication info but is its not wireless you shouldn't have one. The links should help:

    JIMWA - PSP help please?????

Jimwa you helped with my psp question before. I have followed your instructions but you need to speak to me like I'm 5 because I have no clue how to do what you are saying!!!!

    I have done the following:

    Start

    =%26gt;run

    ==%26gt;type 'cmd'

    command prompt will open

    ===%26gt;type 'ipconfig/all'

all your internet numbers will come up..such as ip adress, default gateway (otherwise known as default router), Primary and Secondary DNS Servers and Subnet Mask

    Start up your PSP

    -settings

    -network settings

    -infastructure

    -[New Connection]

    -Find your access point

I found my access point (which is my bthomehub)

then it asks me SSID and I get a page with the numbers and letters to change my BThomehub name. I left it as is....

then I get WLAn security settings. I chose NONE (as opposed to WEP WPA etc) then I chose easy for address settings. I used the homehub for the connection name. went past the setting list...pressed x to save the settings...then they ask me to try a test connection...
    JIMWA - PSP help please?????
well when u search for the internet connection does it say under security WEP if it does then it is locked to outsiders

  • Downloading Anonymously ?

I have a few questions that I just need some simple yes's or no's.

Lets say somebody wants to download files and such that may be questionable or should I say%26quot;not bought%26quot;, but want to do it without identifying their selves or being tracked.

I am not talking about covering an ip address by using software designed for p2p downloading through utorrent or bitlord, and I am not talking about using or going through a proxy server to surf anonymously.

    HEre are my questions

Can a person be identified by their DHCP Server Address?

Can a person be identified by their DNS Server addresses?

Can a person be identified by their MAC address?

Can a person be identified by their Default Gateway?

I have already know how to change a MAC address %26amp; already know you can manually change an ip address by

ipconfig /release then unplugging router and pluggin it back in and doing ipconfig /renew in cmd.

I just notice a couple of things that stay the same no matter what someone does and thats the DHCP SERVER ADDRESS %26amp; the DNS SERVER ADDRESSES. And yes I know you can disable the use of DHCP, but i have been running into problems figuring out the TCP settings.

So again basically, I am asking if you could be found out by your DHCP and or your DNS utmost, if you were to make sure to change your IP %26amp; MAC addresses every time you wanted to go online and download something questionable or not and then change them

(the MAC %26amp; IP) again before you went and did something like oh I don't know....log into a personal email, which if you did would basically connect yourself to the IP %26amp; MAC you were doing the questionable downloads on which would be a big bad thing, I would think.

Cause as I see it, if everytime you go online with a dif MAC and dif IP address and make sure to never go to any ACTUAL PERSONAL ACCOUNTS on the same mac and IP address you did something questionable with, that would possibly identify you, you would be pretty much in the clear.

And well of course this is the extent of my knowledge or guess on the subject as I am here asking you all now.

This is of course just for my knowledge. Not that I would ever actually do something like this. I a, just a curious cat.
    Downloading Anonymously ?
Yes you can be tracked down.

I assume you are using an Internet Service Provider from home.

The ISP records your presence (address) when you connect, and the modem has an identification code of its own. The web site you visit can record the time of the visit and the IP address. If the web site should find undesirable or possibly illegal activity coming from that IP address, they can get a court order to require the ISP to provide them with the identity of the account using that IP address at that particular time.

For example, if you purchase online, the business will record the time and the IP address to give them data for fraud investiagations.

This can be a huge problem if you have a wireless network. If you do not have encryption enabled, someone outside your home could hack into your network and use your internet connection to do very bad things - and guess who gets blamed for it? The account holder. And how would you prove you did not do it?
    Downloading Anonymously ?
it still goes through your internet provider which by law has to turn you in
Just tell your parents %26quot;hey parents I love to download porn, get over it%26quot;.
I will try to answer your questions as simply as possible.

Can a person be identified by their DHCP Server Address?

This doesn't necessarily make sense. The DHCP server address, as you probably know, is the address that you choose of a device on your network that your computer will talk to in order to be automatically assigned configuration settings like IP address. This is always a LOCAL address on your immediate network, and the question of identifiability does not make sense. Anyone who is using a given DHCP server will have that server's IP address configured in that way.

Usually changing this value does not make sense. You will no longer be able to automatically get assigned network configuration data. For most normal users, their DHCP server is the router that they are connected to.

Can a person be identified by their DNS Server addresses?

This is another question that does not particularly make sense. A DNS server is just a server that you must talk to in order to resolve hostnames, e.g. convert something like yahoo.com to something like 68.180.206.184 so that your computer can contact the Yahoo! server.

Your DNS server, like your DHCP server, is something that probably would not make sense for you to change.

Can a person be identified by their MAC address?

Absolutely yes. A given MAC address, while not guaranteed to be UNIQUE worldwide, does correspond to a specific device. For example, if your laptop has wireless capability and wired networking capability, then it has at least two network adapters. Each of these was built with a MAC address. That MAC address identifies the manufacturer of the adapter, among other things, and is not meant to be changed.

However, no one sees the MAC address except devices SPECIFICALLY talking to that hardware. In other words, if you are plugged into a router, then only that router and MAYBE other machines also plugged into that router care about your network adapter's MAC address. There is no concept of any other machine on the Internet being able to see or care about the MAC address(es) of your hardware.

Like I said, the MAC address is programmed into your device and is NOT supposed to be changed. I suggest not worrying about things like MAC addresses ever again unless you have an address collision (very rare) or take a networking class.

Can a person be identified by their Default Gateway?

See my answer to DHCP Server. For most people, the gateway is actually the same as the DHCP server (usually a router). Don't worry about this either.

In general, all four of these things are configuration data that make up how your machine talks to your router and other machines, and changing them will basically just either break your ability to access the Internet or have no effect at all.

There is no anonymity to be gained by changing any of these fundamental connection settings.

Keep in mind also that there isn't really much anonymity gained from changing your public Internet-side IP address either, since ISPs keep logs of what accounts/locations connect through which IPs at any given time.

    THE BIG NETWORK QUERRIES!!?

Sorry in advance for the mass nature of the query, and for the randomness of my typing.

I am with virgin 10mb and i always lag.

I recently purchased a Belkin N router, upgrading form a G Belkin router. And some how my connection on my Ps3 and XBox 360 has gotten worse. From a near constant 100% on my ps3 i get 85 at the best and a moderate NAT on the Xbox.

I have had problems with every 15 minutes i loose connection, could this be a fault with the router or the settings if so what can i do?

    (refresh rate perhaps)

So, is this possible should i go back to the old one or what if anything can i change?

For both consoles have activated DMZ, with no success, should i have dine this?

WPA%26quot; or WPA-PSK key? does it matter.?

    TKIP or AES or both?

And what settings would help the Xbox ( My brothers)

For the PS3 i have connected the settings manually,

manual IP, open DNS should this of helped?

Should i keep the MTU on automatic or 1500?

should i keep the Ip adress on auto and the others manual or the combination or all?

Can anyone help at all, i've had rela problems with this.

    thank you =)
    THE BIG NETWORK QUERRIES!!?
check your speed first at www.speedtest.net/

and check if you really got 10meg

also put a WEP/WPA code on your router incase someone is using your internet without your knowledge.

then try out your ps3 or xbox 360 online.

but best if you use wired connection as wireless sucks.

Use static IP Speedstream 4200/D-Link 524?

Currently my Speedstream Router uses DHCP to spit out IP addresses to my D-Link router. I would like to configure it so that it is static (IE, the D-Link, only gets the IP 10.0.0.1) but I am unsure how to do this.

I believe that its configured in the D-Link WAN settings, and then I click static IP address, but what settings do I enter. The fields I need are:

IP Address, Subnet Mask, ISP Gateway Address, Primary DNS Address, Secondary DNS Address, MTU, Keep Alive, Do not change the TTL value and IGMP

If anyone could tell me what I should enter into those settings, it would be much appreciated (as well as whether I need to change anything on the Speed stream)
Use static IP Speedstream 4200/D-Link 524?
Assign an IP address in the same range as your SS router.

e.g. SS Router IP is 192.168.1.1

you need to assign your Dlink something like:

    IP: 192.168.1.10

    Sub: 255.255.255.0

D Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (D gateway is usually your Routers IP address)

You also need to disable DHCP and firewall on your Dlink. Make sure you have your SS router connected to a LAN port on your Dlink (NOT the WAN port).

I had the same problem with my SKY broadband my connection was either all OK or it would come up with the limited and local thing i rang SKY about 6 times and they would get me to reset my router and it would work fine but a few days later the same thing would happen again in the end i got through to their IT department who advised a few things and one of these things was to change the actual connector that's connected to the phone socket.

i.e my main line has a double connector 1 for the tel and 1 for the router I changed the this double connector and this seem to have fixed the problem might be worth a go
Why Does My Wireless Laptop Go Into Limited Or Local? *Update*?
Basically it has nothing to do with your computer its more to do with the provider you use and with towers they use, so its just like have a mobile that has no reception. your wireless has no reception in parts where it does not able to pick up on any signals.
It's absolutely nothing to do with your wireless connection.

The fact that it's telling you it has local connection means it's working.

What's not working is the internet connection from your router to your service provider.

Run a virus scan on your computer. If your virus and spyware protection are up-to-date, the scan will detect any offenders and remove them from your computer.

Unplug your modem and wait a minute. Many times resetting a modem will fix the slow Internet connection.

Perform a system restore on your computer. This allows you to undo any harmful changes that you have made to your computer that could be causing the slower Internet.

Free up space on your hard drive. Routinely removing temporary Internet files and programs that you no longer use will help keep your computer running efficiently.

Test your connection. Many Internet providers will allow you to use their site to check to make sure that there is not a problem with your connection.

  • How do I get my wireless internet working again?

So recently I got my computer back from the computer store, as it had overheated and fried the motherboard and they had to replace it with a new one. I have a compaq presario, and i use a tp-link router and a tp-link wireless adapter. Before it overheated, both my computer and my internet connection were working fine, as was both my brothers x-box and my laptop which are also wirelessly connected to the router. But, ever since I got my computer back, the internet connection hasn't been working on it at all. The laptop and x-box connection are working fine, but the computer is a no-go. When I first plugged my computer up and tried to connect to the wirless network, it came up with 'Limited or no connectivity', so naturally, I clicked on the repair button, only to find that as soon as small window came up with 'Renewing IP address' it would tell me that it was unable to do that. So, I turned off my router and my modem, turned it on again and tried again. Still, no improvement. I then googled the matter and someone suggested to manually change the IP address and the DNS server etc... so, I did. I used the codes from my laptop settings, and instantly it told me that i'm connected, yet... when I tried to use the internet it didn't work. I then checked the status of the connection and it says whilst I'm sending packages, I'm not receiving any. I did this again with my main computers details, ending with the same results. So, I resorted to google once again, and another person suggested using winfix. It did nothng at all. It just brought me back to square one, with the little bubble on the left hand corner of my screen telling me I have limited or no connectivity. Help please :) this is soooo frustrating!
How do I get my wireless internet working again?
Start -%26gt; Settings -%26gt; Control Panel -%26gt; System -%26gt; Hardware tab -%26gt; Device Manager button. Click on %26quot;Network Adapter%26quot; and uninstall your wireless adapter. Reboot and XP should detect and reinstall the device. That should clear out all the old settings at the same time. Now when you run the Wireless Networking Wizard you should start with a clean slate.
How do I get my wireless internet working again?
A couple of things could be wrong. I would try the reboot of the router with the non-working computer plugged in via ethernet for the reboot. I bet that does it.

How can I get the adapter to work?

I have a Linksys WGA11B wireless game adatper, and I used to use it a lot with my Xbox 360 and it worked fine. And now I am trying to use it and it doesn't work. I have a unsecure network. And everything on the xbox is set to automatic and it says that it is connected to the network and everything. But when I test it it locates the adaptor and the network, and occasionally passes the IP Address lookup, but NEVER passes the DNS lookup thing. I also noticed that when you connect ot a network, on the adaptor, it changes from Internet Mode to BO (whatever that is) and there is no way at all to make it stay on internet, it just automaticcally chnages to BO and if you try to change it back to internet your network settings get screwed and when you connect ot them again it goes back to BO. so how can I get the adapter to work?
How can I get the adapter to work?
reset the WGA11B to factory default settings. To do so, power the adapter and use a bent paperclip end to push in the recessed reset button on the side of the device for 10-15 seconds. If you've reset the device correctly, the light on the display will cycle off and on and the channel will revert to 06. if this doesn't help goto the set-up troubleshoot site below..

Setting up a Static IP address?

HELP. How do i set up a static ip address? O.S Vista ultimate. Apparently i need one to down load bit torrent data when using U torrent. I have set this up once already and it was working fine up until yesterday and i have had to put it back to a dynamic address. I have opened up a port in my router fire wall and got all of the settings i need (DNS,Sub net, mask, ip address %26amp; default gate way). However, when i change my options from dynamic ip and enter the settings obtained from the router, it tells me there is an ip address conflict and that another computer on my network has the same address, but i only own one computer! I have tried to follow the instructions on a web sight i found, but it still will not work. I really need an idiots guide from step 1 please!!!
Setting up a Static IP address?
Have you entered the routers IP address as the same as the computer. Usually the. router address is 192.168.1.1 (the specific address depends on the make of the router. Each computer added is then given the next address up e.g. 192.168.1.2 and so on. If you have assigned the computer the same address as the router then you would get this message.

How to setup DNS with no-ip.com and my local computer?

    Hi Everyone,

I've setup a domain name with no-ip.com. I have an apache server running on my home computer for local file testing. I need to have the domain forward to my computer's IP address and update the IP when it changes. I'm using the no-ip DUC for this.

My problem is that my ISP blocks port 80, so I've tried turning on port forwarding and working with some different settings in my no-ip account with no luck. I keeps forwarding to my router's confiuration site. I also tried modifying the 'Listen' command in the apache config file.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks!
How to setup DNS with no-ip.com and my local computer?
    Hi,

As Adrian has correctly advised you to configure the port 8080 for your server, you can follow the below steps to do the same:

    1. Open Internet Explorer, Type the IP Address if the router and login to the configuration page.

    2. Click Advanced settings.

    3. Click the Internet link near the left of the page.

    4. You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Address Translation.

    5. You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Port Forwarding.

    6. Select the required service if listed, else type the Port no. 8080 in the Start %26amp; End port (where it says TCP/UDP ports) and redirect it to your server. Do ensure Static IP is configured on the server.

    Apply the settings..

    This should work.

You can also check the attached link for reference.

    http://portforward.com/english/routers/p鈥?/a>

Update / email the result and your hostname as well so that It can be tested.

    Good Luck

    Wireless..:)
How to setup DNS with no-ip.com and my local computer?
See if you can set the no-ip to use port 8080 for your URL. It may be somewhere in the re-direct setup (I use DynDNS and DtDNS), That's an alternative http port.

You would then have to forward port 8080 on the router to the server, with Apache listening to port 8080 as well. Server must be on a static IP in the LAN.

Some routers will do PAT (Port adress Translation), where you can come in on port 8080 and translate it to port 80 on the LAN. However, this function is router specific, I know my Linksys does not do that, but my cheap networkeverywhere router does.

  • How do I determine the correct IP, DNS server, subnet mask, etc. for my Xbox 360 while using a router?

The IP address of my Xbox 360, when set to automatic, always changes. This means I cannot forward ports to a specific IP address in my router settings, because the IP address is always different. (My router does not appear to give me the option to forward ports to a range of IP addresses, only one IP per port or port range.) Therefore, I need to enter a static IP for my 360 using manual network configuration.

How do I determine the correct static IP and other network settings for my 360?

    Thanks.
How do I determine the correct IP, DNS server, subnet mask, etc. for my Xbox 360 while using a router?
You can pick any IP address in your IP range that isn't being used to be the static IP. That's really up to you. I'm going to assume a few things here, but this is what your settings should be:

XBox IP: whatever you want, as long as it's not used and it's on your network. You could set it to automatic once, check the IP that it gets, then set that as your static since you know it's an available IP to assign

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: IP address of your router

DNS: IP address of your router. If you can leave DNS as automatic while still using a static IP, I'd suggest doing that instead.

How can I be connected to the internet and not able to use it?

Hello. I just can't seem to wrap my head around this. I'm running Vista Home Premium and Basic on two of my laptops. Each of them are able to connect to my wireless network no problems whatsoever. However, they are practically unable to surf the internet for the most part. When I try to go to any site, about 95% of the time Firefox will tell me %26quot;The connection has been reset%26quot; after connecting to the site. It gets to %26quot;Waiting for www.google.com%26quot; or %26quot;Waiting for 192.168.1.1%26quot; or the like. IE does the same thing as does Google Chrome. I suppose it never %26quot;transfers data%26quot; or such. Only when it wants to. Another thing that's weirding me out is that when I try a ping in the command prompt, its a hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes no. Also, most of the time I can connect to Skype with little to no issues. Same with programs like Frostwire and uTorrent. Once again, the other messengers are hit and miss. Sometimes they'll sustain connection, sometimes they'll be lost. I know its not the router because another of the users are using it just fine and after resetting the router, the problem still remained.

I've searched and searched with no luck at all. There's never any problem that fits the one I have that seems to have a solution that works. I've tried setting a static IP/DNS and changing it back to getting it automatically, I've reset my router, rebooted, dumped my cache, reset my winsocks, tried different configurations of my IPv4/6 settings, disabled and enabled the wireless card, reset my browsers, even tried to download a fix from Microsoft. Nothing seems to work. The thing that's off is that its affecting two of my laptops but not the other. Just seems odd to me is all.

    Create a webserver?

Hey I want to host files using my current Internet connection. I'm just not how to go about doing it with my current ISP (which I am not willing to change).

I currently use comcast high speed internet and im supposed to have a Dynamic IP. I signed up for Dyna DNS but noticed that for some reason, my computers IP is static. I tried hosting some files on a windows machine, but was unable to access them on the internet, only on my LAN.

When I setup my webserver it should be running Ubuntu Linux but I want to know what software I need to install and what settings need to be changed in order to host an ASP.net site. Nothing too complicated, I'm fairly new to Linux.
    Create a webserver?
Did you install a web server software? A popular one is Apache HTTP Server. It has Windows and UNIX(probably Linux works). Once you installed it, put your files into the httpdocs folder, and open port 80 to the service associated with the Apache Web Server.

As for ASP.net, look for resources online.

  • PS3 Connection help!?

Yeah, so recently, I did this How to put ur PS3 into DMZ...(solves most cod:waw online problems)

I tried it, and something went bad. I thought it would help my connection, it was fine, but now, I'm able to connect and everything, but I lag incredibly, 1 bar signal, even though my wireless connection is 80 - 100% always, and I have 1 bar, and I lag. Sometimes I get 2 or 3 bars, and then goes to 1, which never happened before. I also noticed how it takes longer for me to find games. Before I did this, I ALWAYS had 3 bars, and if it lagged it was the host, I didn't have the perfect connection, but it was good as it was. Now, I tried reseting my router and it still won't change, so help. I also noticed how at the beggining of a game, I start out with 1 bar, and after 20 sec I get to 2 or 3, and a minute later, it goes to 1 bar again, with 80 - 100% signal. My DNS settings are set to the same as the IP, is there a better input or something :/.Before I had NAT Type 1, and now I have NAT Type 2, if it helps.

    Somebody please help me.
    PS3 Connection help!?
it sounds like the problem isn't your PS3 but rather the connection of your router. Make sure all of your phone lines and/or fax machines have the proper dsl filters on them. Without the filters it is common for unstable internet connections. Try that and it should help.

Can the NAT be affected by connecting through a laptop to xbox live?

Im trying to play halo 3 online but its extremely laggy. It says my NAT is moderate. Im trying to change it to open but I can't assign an static IP address, it disconnects from live and wont reconnect. I have all my DNS settings correct I know that. I can't forward the ports on my router because the have 192.168.1.(something) and my xbox'x automatic IP has a 0 where the 1 is. How do I open my NAT? Is there a possibility it could be settings on my laptop im connecting to rather than the router itself?
Can the NAT be affected by connecting through a laptop to xbox live?
Unfortunately, you're going to have to find a way to connect your Xbox directly to your main router. And even then, you may not have much luck if your main router doesn't support either %26quot;UPnP%26quot; or %26quot;Full Cone%26quot;. The problem is that when Xbox goes live, it needs to establish a connection with a central server to get the game maps and coordinate its game, and it also needs to establish a direct connection (via UDP) to other gamers in your group. Direct UDP connections between players is necessary because of the speed of the game and the need to convey bits of information in real time. Going through a central server for all this information would choke the central server and slow down game play for everyone.

On the other hand, establishing a direct connection between players over UDP is not the most secure way to connect to the Internet, and routers normally block such attempts. The people at Xbox understand this limitation, so they take advantage of several %26quot;tricks%26quot; to coax the routers to allow direct connections. One of these tricks involves using a router protocol called UPnP, which essentially tells the routers to temporarily allow limited direct access between players. Another trick involves using something called %26quot;Full Cone%26quot;, which uses a third party to %26quot;trick%26quot; the router into temporarily allowing a direct connection. The degree to which these methods are successful are denoted by the terms:

    1. Strict NAT - No direct connection possible

    2. Moderate NAT - Some degree of direct connection possible

    3. Open (or full) NAT - Full connection possible

If you have Moderate NAT, it means that everyone else in your group must have either Open or Moderate NAT before a game can be played.

I'm surprised that connecting through your laptop is successful at all. Normally Microsoft incorporates a very strict policy when being used as a router, and they would block all access.

I've written an article on my blog about this very topic, which I reference below.

The bottom line is that you may need to go so far as to get a new router, and then connect your Xbox directly to it. Fortunately, routers are very inexpensive today, so that won't cost too much. My personal experience (I play Halo 3 waaayyyy too much) is that wireless is worthless - go with a direct connection if at all possible. And make sure that your new router is compatible with Xbox. My blog article has a copy of a logo that you should see on your router to ensure it is Xbox Live compatible.

    Good luck!

check the ports you need to run the game windows or your router may have essential ports blocked the ingame settings should tell you what ports are required also the game makers site should have info

It really depends on who your Internet provider is. Have you tried connecting directly to the modem with and ethernet cord? If it doesn't work then, most likely you will have to contact your Internet provider.

That's what happened to me and it was a problem with the modem and even the cable guy had never experienced it before. He had to call the manufacturer of the modem to get the instructions on how to fix it.

The problem may not be the router, it may be the modem and your Internet provider. I know that's the last thing you want to hear, I know I was fuming when it happened to me.

    Good luck!

All the other 5 computers in my house connect okay what can I do? It had been connecting fine before this, and I hadn't made any changes to the connection info or security settings or whatever. It says it cannot reach the DNS server/host what does this mean? How can I fix it?

    Please help :-)

Sounds like you only have access to the local network in your house. How is the wireless signal? Maybe there is some MAC address filtering on your wireless router?? Does it say that you are connected to your wireless network? See if you can plug it directly into your Wireless router and get to the internet.

  • Why can't I get my xBox 360 Wireless Adaptor to Connect to my Network?

I have followed all the instructions and I just can't seem to figure out how to connect to my Network. It tells me the network settings have changed and so I go to Test Media, which is what it tells me to do. It passes the first part (Network Adaptor: USB Wireless), but then it goes to the second and it tells me: %26quot;Wireless Network: Not Connected.%26quot; That's funny because when I go back a single screen, it tells me that I'm connected to my network.

*Manually inputting my actual network information - does the same thing.

If it helps at all, I have a LinkSys router with my wireless network. I have the Wii, 3 laptops, 2 desktops and a phone hooked to it and those all work just fine. The light on the back of the adaptor is a steady red light. In the settings screen, it tells me that I'm connected to the right network and my %26quot;Link%26quot; Button is red, but my %26quot;Act%26quot; button is gray.

I would greatly appreciate some help! Thank you in advance!
Why can't I get my xBox 360 Wireless Adaptor to Connect to my Network?
The wireless adapter has been nothing but trouble for almost everyone. My suggestion is to buy enough ethernet cable (CAT 5) and run it to your 360.

    Good luck.

How Do you change a public IP address?

I know that while on the internet I have a IP address set to my computer, I also know that in order to get a new IP address I would have to restart my Router , and so I was wondering if there is a way of getting my IP to change every so often, or even hiding my IP address? I would restart my router but it can be awkward at times since the router is in my living room and my computer is upstairs in my room.

Also I have registered on dyndns.com and created a dynamic dns host and added the settings to my router, although It doesn't seem to do anything.
How Do you change a public IP address?
By all means try using a proxy, but in my experience if you visit an IP site like:

    http://www.ip-adress.com/

Your IP still remains the same even though it's supposedly changed.

The ONLY way i've succeeded is with a program called Hide My IP:

    http://www.hide-my-ip.com/

There are bound to be others available that DO work as well, and DO change the IP when you visit the %26quot;check my IP%26quot; sites. The downside of this is, depending on what country your %26quot;new IP%26quot; is situated in, there will be a slower browsing and download speed.

    Good Luck !
How Do you change a public IP address?
i don't think you can change it ,

an ip address is premanent ,

if you could change it then those hackers and child porn watchers would never get caught
to hide it just use a proxy, its much simpler and much easier solution. just search for a web proxy on google.
Using a dynamic IP wouldn't help in your situation.

    You could open

    Start -%26gt;

    Run -%26gt;

    Type:

    cmd.exe

    send ipconfig /release

    send ipconfig /renew

    (This will reset your IP/renew)

Or another solution to keep your IP completely hidden would be to use a PROXY.

    You can use a proxy for a one-time visit by using a web-proxy, ( http://www.prospector.cz/Free-Internet-s鈥?/a> ) scroll down to %26quot;Links%26quot;

or you can use a %26quot;static%26quot; proxy, try www.download.com and search: Proxy or Hide IP.
Goto this website it will show you how to change your ip address:

    http://whatismyipaddress.com/staticpages鈥?/a>
The internet servers need to know where to send the data or html source code so that's why you need a IP address.

    Ex:

    You %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Web Server

    You %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt; Web Server

    The way to hide your IP address is to use a %26quot;proxy%26quot;

    Ex:

    You %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Proxy %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Web Server

    You%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;Proxy %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;Web Server

    you can link them too.

    You %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Proxy1 %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Proxy2 %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Proxy3 %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Server

    You %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;Proxy1 %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;Proxy2%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;Proxy3%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;Server

You IP is still exposed to the first proxy though, some proxies keep logs or even save the text you sent through it. There are some other flaws too, if java loads, for example, it could be coded to get the IP of the computer that it's runing on and send it... So it would have your IP and send it through the proxy back to the server. Also beware: the government is watching the %26quot;backbones%26quot; now - that means if you accidently type and send a %26quot;keyword%26quot; then the government will intercept the data before it even reaches the proxy. The data is then stored by NSA. That's why you shouldn't send anything over the internet that could get you into trouble.

You can have the proxy be a website and run it through your browser; that is the easiest way ------%26gt; http://proxy.org/

There are more extravegant methods too: --------%26gt;http://www.torproject.org/

(Some people think that the government might have backdoored it though)

I always go http://www.ipflag.com/ to make sure that my %26quot;apperent%26quot; IP address realy changed and isn't my real one.

    How to fix LAN problems?

Last night I was trying to set up the playstation network on my new ps3. It was having problems getting the IP address I think so I searched on the internet for solutions and ended up manually entering and IP address and primary and secondary DNS. When that didn't work I went onto my netgear router settings and changed the IP address and primary and secondary DNS there as well, instead of the automatic options. After changing it several times the internet stopped working and changed to local only. I tried to repair it through windows and it said that as it couldn't access www.microsoft.com there may be a problem with the DNS. Phoned up AOL today and they said there was a problem with the LAN and that it needed fixing.

Does anyone know how this can be fixed? Thank you in advance!
    How to fix LAN problems?
    Easiest Way!

Use a paperclip to Reset your Router to factory defaults, this will automagically set everything (DNS, DHCP,etc) to automatic. At this point set up a new admin password and WEP key (WPAv2 if you know what is good for you) Make sure your PS3 is set up for automatic DHCP. In the future dont set static IP's unless you are prepaired to configure ALL your hardware. If you post the Model # for the router someone im sure will answer with the reset procedure.
    How to fix LAN problems?
DNS = domain name server - your computer needs a reply from a dns in order to navigate to its destination (microsoft.com). put back dns in router and only put one in your computer, not 2, and make dns the same as your gateway
Have you tried logging back into your router and setting the DNS and IP configuration back to automatic?

It sounds like the information your router needs to connect to the internet has been altered.....
Connect a cable directly from your router to yoru pc then access the router, instead of connecting wirelessly, if still unable to connect reset therouter to its factoy default.

  • How do you get the IP and DSN for your Netgear Router?

I accidentally renamed my ACCOUNT NAME for my Netgear Router and it wiped out the default settings for the IP address and DNS address.

I have no idea what the original account name was.

I called Comcast and thy would not provide me with that information and they gave me the number for Netgear. My router was no longer under warranty so Netgear would not provide me with any help. They wanted to charge me $70 for 6 months extended tech support or $35 for 15 minutes.

    The router model is WNR834B

I made the change under Basic Settings.

I could buy a new router for $70 or pay the $35.

or would it be possible to restore it with the disc that came with the Router? I have not tried this yet.
How do you get the IP and DSN for your Netgear Router?
If you want to set the settings back to the factory default you should reset the router using the reset button, usually a tiny button located on the back of the router.

    Do a hard reset.

Hold reset button for 20 seconds, unplug for 20 seconds while still holding the reset button and hold 20 more seconds after you turn on the power. So you're holding the button for about 1 minute.

    That should reset to defaults.

The factory default password is %26quot;password%26quot; without quotation marks. I don't think there is a user name, so try to leave it blank.

How do I change my default browser ?

I did have Firefox as my default browser but for some reason it has stopped, so now I am going back to IE, but can't figure it out. I changed it in Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, but I am figuring that's not it. Now if there is anyone out there that can tell me how to fix Firefox then by all means please do so, I am going crazy without it. It says Page Load Error and on the page it says:

Address not found Firefox can't find the server at www.yahoo.com.

The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.

    * Did you make a mistake when typing the domain? (e.g. %26quot;ww.mozilla.org%26quot; instead of %26quot;www.mozilla.org%26quot;)

    * Are you certain this domain address exists? Its registration may have expired.

    * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check your network connection and DNS server settings.

    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

    I need help with Apache...?

I installed Apache and for the domain i type 'localhost' and when I type localhost into my browser, it comes up fine..but after I went into the httpd.conf and changed the line that said #ServerName localhost:80 and i tried several different .com and .net addresses both with and without the www. in front of it and when i type them into my internet browser they dont come up, but it will still load if i type 'localhost'. How do I make a name like www.mywebsite.com, and how do I make it so others can get to it?? I am really new to website hosting... I already changed the settings on my router so that when port 80 is requested it forwards to my IP. The httpd.conf file also has a line that says

    # If your host doesn't have a registered DNS name, enter its IP address here.

is this saying that to create a site like www.mysite.com i have to register it somehow? and what does it mean by 'host', is this my ISP or Apache? Or something totally different?
    I need help with Apache...?
You need to have a registered domain, that points to your server.

So for instance, if you have a registered domain name of example.com registered at godaddy, you would need to use their interface to point it to your server.

You also need to configure apache with your domain name in it:

#ServerName example.com:80 and your computer should be configured as a nameserver, or you can use a host if they allow it.

There are also free nameservers you can use. Try googling free dns servers. I used to know of several, but they escape me now.

Why can't i sign into PlayStation Network?

First of all, i am signed up with playstation network and do have an account to play on. But just two days ago it stopped signing me in. Whenever i try to, it always says: %26quot;AN ERROR HAS OCCURED YOU HAVE BEEN SIGNED OUT OF PLAYSTATION NETWORK%26quot; Then next to that there are about 9 numbers in a bracket.

Oh and sometimes it says This is a DNS error after that sentence then following this sentence those same numbers once again.

I do have broadband connection (obviously) i got the 3 mobile broadband, if anyone has heard of that. If you haven't it's basically a dial-up modem, it is a 2.5G network.

You need the program to be able to connect, and obviously you can't install programs on the ps3.

So what i do is that i just hook the modem onto the comp and leave the comp on, i go to network settings and enable everyone to use this network through any other network. Then i connect the ethernet cable, one end to the ps3 LAN port and the other to the computer's LAN port. Then when i click connect on the program, once it connects i open the ps3 then it signs me in, but i have to leave the comp on if i want to play online or stay online.

So does anybody know why this might be happening, i've had my ps3 for 1 year and 5 months, i started playing online early september last year. so i guess that's 7 months. This error occurred once, but idk how the hell it fixed, i just simple kept restartting comp and ps3 and keep trying it and then after so so many times it suddenly signed me in, FINALLY!

This time i tried doing system restore cause i might've changed something in the settings on the comp and that is causing me not to sign in. But it's still the same thing.

I contacted SONY but they said that with my particular internet, they cannot help me, they are not entitled to and they don't know anyways.

I tried everything honestly, i changed the settings that allows everyone to share the network, i deselected it then reselected it. I used my wireless router too this time, i changed ethernet cables, i bought new ethernet cable! still same thing!!

plz if you know how you fixed yours, if it happened to you, plz tell me. or if you just know generally how to fix it, pllzzz reply! thx!
Why can't i sign into PlayStation Network?
the same thing happened to me

i think you have to go where it says internet settings and then

you go where youre computer is then if you have some little thing

that makes the internet work and if look behind it there will be numbers

then you go back to the ps3 then you put the numbers in the internet settings
Why can't i sign into PlayStation Network?
first of all check if your internet connection is right, and second of all just make a new account.
    try rebooting the server

    I need help with my 40g Playstation3?

When I try to go on line it keeps on saying it encountered a problem DNS error (80710102) and i want to know how to fix it. I have a netgear wireless router but i don't have wireless because I don't have an ethernet port on my computer (its an old computer) and I can't connect it to my computer so i can't change the settings. This happened to me before but before when i tried to test the internet connection the playstation network didn't connect this time it is the internet that doesn't connect. It started last week. The last time this happened it was because of an update if anyone wanted to know. Can anyone help me? i want to dowload the fifa 09 demo.
    I need help with my 40g Playstation3?
there's something wrong with your internet. try callign your internet provider to check to see what the problem is
    I need help with my 40g Playstation3?
Call your Internet Service Provider to see if its the connection or is it somthing you have to do yourself
@_@ i think its a fault wit them im lucky i got a 60gb but keep ure ps3 clean and keep ure internet router clean if this still doesnt work try moving the router closer to the ps3 :D
I would first call sony customer service and figure out whether or not it's a problem with the ps3 itself, and if it isn't, I would call your internet service provider customer support.
have you tried using ethernet wire to the ps3 to the netgear?

If you assign a static IP on your system will it enable you to remotely access the system which uses that IP?

for example, if I had the IP address/default gateway/dns server number for another computer and I was to go in on control panel on here to assign a static IP, and I typed in the IP address/default gateway, e.t.c. for the other computer, would this mean I was connected/would be able to connect to the other computer? And what would happen after I assigned the settings, i.e. how would I know I was connected to the other computer? Keep in mind that I am just speaking hypotetically because I am not able to change the settings on this computer. But I would just like to know if it would work for future reference.
If you assign a static IP on your system will it enable you to remotely access the system which uses that IP?
The only way to stablish a connection is between a client and a server. Even if you know the IP address, if there's no server running in the other computer to connect to, you will never stablish a connection.
If you assign a static IP on your system will it enable you to remotely access the system which uses that IP?
I'm not sure I'm interpreting your question correctly, but here's what I think you're asking...

If you give your computer the same IP address as another computer on the network, this will generate an IP conflict. Both your computer and the other machine will lose networking, and if you're running Windows you'll get a message informing you of an IP conflict.
No, that is not how IP addresses are used, if you are on the same network as the other computer and were to use the same ip address as the other computer then niether computer would be able to access the network because the network would show a conflicting set of IP addresses. It would be like two houses having the same address which one do you go to.

Also if you where at home and tried this you would loose you internet connectivity, because the IP and gateway are probably not the same ones that you ISP use.

In order to access that other computer you would need to know the ip address, and the ip address of the router and the ip address of the ISP that that computer is using. Also you would have to have rights to get passed the internal firewall.

Or if the firewall is set to accept incoming connections then you would need a user name and password to access that computer.

Networks are very complex systems and require a great deal on knowledge to get past security systems and firewalls. The only other way to do this would be to use a copy of PC anywhere and install it on the PC, however if this is a business Computer then chances are that you won't have Adminstrative rights to install software either.

So, there will be no hacking for you.

    Good Luck!

How do I run a web server behind a router behind a cable modem?
Your setup sounds a little confusing but you're on the right track. Normally you would configure your internet router (the one that receives its IP address from the ISP) to forward port 80 (http) inbound (port forwarding). Then use DDNS so people on the Internet can hit your server. You should put a DDNS client on the server if your router won't support it. The client checks in with the DDNS service periodically so that it can update your IP address if it changes. You may also want to forward port 443 for https.

Also make sure your 'upstream' speed is fast enough to support a server. Loading web pages doesn't take that much bandwidth I reckon but downloads on a slow pipe would be annoying.

  • HELP internet issues?

Ok, third time i have asked this Q. Still no resolution. Short and Sweet:

2 Computers, one is mine, other is aunts, both on Lynksys Router and AT%26amp;T modem/DSL broadband internet.

Internet connection on her comp is fine all the time, mine has been too. On two occassions it Disconnected (DC'd) but they were resolved. Now I play WoW (World of Warcraft) and it DC's alot more, and I diagnose it, and it says, DNS config error, or Network config error.

How do I fix/change these settings or errors? and why are they occuring?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled WoW, the internet providers, router, and modem hardware on BOTH computers, and they both have firewall and anti-virus through AVG, w/ Windows Vista.

Please help me this is getting very frustrating. I hope this is the last time I have to post a Q regarding this on here.
    HELP internet issues?
If aunt's is still ok but your PC DC's then the problem is naturally (99%) certain to be on or around your PC.

Let's assume that your network card etc are fine and not suffering an internittent problem.

First test I'd do is to connect aunt's PC to your PC's Internet connection cable - just plug yours to your aunt's ... yes you will have to bring her comp to where your is. Do not change anything else. See if hers still runs ok.

If it does, then the problem is with your PC possibly a failing network card ... some pieces of electronics do not fail in one clean death. They go on the blnk for a while and make life hell first.

If aunt's comp also DC's then the problem is your cable, its connectors (plugs), a loose wire in the cable/connection etc. Next test is therefore to bring down her cable and plug it into %26quot;her%26quot; comp where ever your PC normally is.

If that fixes it then next plug aunt's lead into your comp. If that fixes it then you need a new cable - nice and easy. If it doesn't then your PC has a problem.

If aunt's comp still DC's with her lead at the location of your PC, you need to check the wall socket the lead plugs into. Again loose connections can do this too.

I (my company and my staff) used to do this sort of trouble shooting all through the 1990's ... it is frustrating as hell and at times it seems like there is no one to help as you hav experienced. We had customers breeding down our necks and threatening not to pay us if we took too long on the grounds that their business was suffering (why that was out fault they never told us!).

What I'm trying to say is ... there is %26quot;always%26quot; a fix ... just keep your cool and go thru the process of elimination.

Good luck and I hope this helps at least eliminate a couple more possibilities.
