DNS error, can't get on to certain websites?

When I go on some websites like google and many others, on firefox it says there is a dns error and the url appears to be megaclick.com. It%26#039;s not just firefox, I have tried internet explorer. All the other computers in my house have the same problem. How come I can%26#039;t get on to these sites, and how can I fix it.

I searched on Yahoo.com for an answer and I found a website with info that said click options and many other instructions, but when I click on that page it gives me a dns error too. I know there is a way to solve it by changing some settings I just don%26#039;t know how.|||From http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic85756.ht鈥?/a>

I had this very same problem, and I hope you have been able to solve it by now, but when I found out how very simple it is to get rid of I felt like the biggest moron ever. Very simple for the annoying problem:

In Firefox go to Tools

Go to Add ons

Simple have it uninstall the toolbar (You will have to restart FireFox)

And there you go problem gone. You dont need to go through hundreds of free scanners that dont work.

How to change LAN Network IP address when computer asks to restart every time but doesn't affect the change?

I have a Toshiba Laptop with Vista Basic loaded. I am using it since Feb%26#039;08. About a week back, my laptop is not changing the LAN IP. I use different IP in office and home. OpenDNS...Please Help! :'(?

I just bought a wireless Linksys WAG54G2 router. I%26#039;m using OpenDNS for web filtering of inappropriate materials. The problem is that anyone connected to my network can override my settings just by changing DNS on their computer.

I heard I can overcome this by blocking port 53 to all IP addresses except the IP of the router.

Can anyone help me with this? I have no idea how to do this. Please help! I%26#039;m desperate.|||Beethink IP blocker blocks DNS IP traffic.|||If you%26#039;re referring to a Linksys WAP54G v2.0, then you can load DD-WRT open source firmware onto the router, it will add additional commands and features. iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i br0 --dport 53 -j DNAT --to $(nvram get lan_ipaddr)

You can try the above on the Linksys firmware, but I am not sure it will work.

How do I transfer my dns hosting settings?

I have a domain name with www.1and1.com. I am trying to set it up with adsence but google says I don%26#039;t have a cname record. It is definitely a 1%26amp;1 issue so I would %26quot;attempt%26quot; to contact their support and allow you to modify it. There may also be some sort of %26quot;lock%26quot; on your domain settings if you can find it and unlock it (for some reason I think I remember having to do this). I don%26#039;t go thru 1%26amp;1 so I can%26#039;t %26quot;mess%26quot; with it to see what you need to do, but I%26#039;d start with their FAQ and knowledge base first then try to get a hold of them.

Before I started hosting everything myself (DNS %26amp; WWW) I would get the domain with a simple domain registrar, host my DNS with xpertdns.com (standalone DNS hosting) and host my sites elsewhere. That way nothing is tied in together, giving you full control over everything.

Could not connect to DNS server, and more! 10 points :) good luck!?

Heres the deal,

About 2 weeks ago i purchased a new HP laptop, I could connect to the internet and maintain a connection perfectly fine, but about 3 days ago the internet would cut out and reconnect within a few seconds about every 15-40 minutes. I%26#039;m sure you all know how this could be rather annoying.

Absolutly nothing had changed in hardware or software specs before this issure started to occure. At first I thought it could be my wireless adapter or power management settings could have changed somehow, but i also have another computer connected directly to the router and that too loses connection at the same time my laptop does. So while it was dissconnected I did a troubleshoot on it and it came up with could not connect to the dns server. I tried changing my dns host to open dns.com but to no avail.

My laptop has windows 7 installed and my other computer has windows vista. My internet service provider is telus, and my router is a 2wire 2700HG-e. I have tried adjusting particular things in the router itself such has chaning the upstream mtu to a lower value and manually putting in a dns address.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your input|||Surely this is a problem for your Internet Service Provider to resolve. I take it you are getting DNS from your ISP?

You need to go into your router settings when it%26#039;s connected and find out the DNS servers, IP addresses. There should be a primary DNS server, a secondary DNS server and possibly a tertiary DNS server.

Write these down and then open a DOS command prompt.

Click in the Start Search box and type cmd, followed by Enter

On the command prompt type:

ping -t %26lt;dns server IP address%26gt;

Where %26lt;dns server IP address%26gt; is the IP address of your primary, secondary or tertiary DNS server.

Leave it pinging and see what sort of reply times you are getting from the DNS server and if you get any timeouts. A timeout will be when the ping does not reply and you get a %26quot;Request timed out%26quot;.

If you are getting reply times much over 75ms then you should contact your ISP. If you are getting lots of timeouts you should contact your ISP. You can leave the ping running to see what kind of times you are getting over a prolonged period.

Next test you can do is to open another command prompt and type nslooukp and press enter.

You%26#039;ll get a screen that says something like:

Default server: %26lt;servername%26gt; %26lt;server address%26gt;

Address: %26lt;server IP%26gt;

%26gt;

On the prompt type www.google.com then press enter.

See how long it takes to come back with a reply. The reply should be instantaneous. If the reply takes longer than 2 seconds you should contact your ISP and tell them that your DNS lookups are taking too long to resolve.

It seems from a quick search on Google that many people are having issues with DNS servers of the Telus ISP - so my initial feeling is that the issue is with them. It shouldn%26#039;t be up to you to resolve this yourself, they should be sorting it out. If you cannot get this issue resolved, change providers.

Hope these tests help you resolve your issue.|||tell telus to get off their a$$ and fix the line to your house, 15-40 minutes? that sounds like a line issue to me, otherwise I would assume router or modem are on the fritz. Try to update your routers firmware verison(if available).good luck

I need help on flushing the dns. The ipconfig /flushdns command is not completely clearing the DNS.?

Hi. I changed the DNS servers for my website. I visited my website on my computer. I try to connect to the website, its been 24 hours since I changed the servers, and I still receiving the old page. How to get Windows Vista Login Screen?

I recently moved into new accomodation, whereby I was supposed to have the internet-access ready. However, when I plugged in the ethernet cable, it wasn`t working since my DNS settings on the laptop were configured to manual. It took a little over a week for me to have the idea of changing these DNS settings.

Thereafter, it worked. It only lasted for a few days, until when I tried to switch on the laptop, no blue screen for the login appeared. This was unusual.

I can see the startup loader for Windows Vista. However just after, there is no Windows Logo or sound and the screen remains black until a start up repair option is requested. The System recovery Options follow, where I usually choose System restore because I do not want to lose any of my files.

I know my laptop is working fine because I have managed to log in a few times using system restore. I`m aware it`s a windows update issue since I missed updates for a week - since I had no internet access. Therefore, it`s a knock-on effect.

I want to know if I did a full back up of all my files and reinstalled Windows Vista on the same computer - would that be a good idea? Will there be retrieval of my back up files to a newly installed Vista on the same computer?

OR - is there anything else I can do? How do I configuring Server 2003 with client systems to speed up login time?

I am trying to setup a basic internet cafe. I have a server with Server 2003 Enterprise and other client machines all connected to a router with an internet connection. I am able to add users to the domain with active directory and login as the user on other systems however when I try to login the time it takes to login can take up to 20 minutes. I have the TCP\IP of the server set to obtain an ip automatically and obtain DNS server automatically. Do I need to change these settings on the server? If so what should I change them to? Is it also ok to have the server and client systems all connected to the same router? Thanks for the info!|||For starters - the server needs a static IP - something like 192.168.0.10 would be ok. You also need it to have a static gateway - which would be the address of your router - I am guessing 192.168.0.1.

Perhaps you can set the server up as the Domain Controller - there is a wizard to walk you through this set up. Let the server assign the IP%26#039;s through DHCP NOT the router. To do this however - you are going to need a static IP from your ISP - extra money. The router can then be set up with just as a gateway.

The server and clients connected to the same router should be ok. The clients then would get their IP%26#039;s and DNS automatically.

Hope this helps and has not left you more confused.

This is out of your control.

If your computer is behind a router, it will pick up a private IP address (i.e. 192.168.0.157), while externally it uses a public IP address (i.e.119.82.44.190). It is likely that your public IP is banned from that game service. Change your private IP address is no use.

There are many methods to ban others, they can banned by IP address, Cookies, Unique Token, Common Information and Multiple Options.

Suppose, it is banned by IP address, you can do the step below.

1) Clear your Cookies.

2) Turn off your modem (and router if you also use it) for 10 to 15 seconds and restart it. And DHCP server of your ISP will likely re-new your computer with a new IP address. And then, the problem is solved.

If it is banned by other methods, visit http://webipaddress.net/resources/i-have鈥?/a> for more solutions.|||Your public IP, the one that is banned, is assigned to you by your ISP. You CANNOT change that, else your ISP will not recognize you as their customer, and cut off internet access. Only by using your ISP%26#039;s assigned IP address, are you allowed to connect to their network. Your ISP is in control of that IP, you are not....

Some web sites can detect proxy use, and ban you based on that alone....|||You could try releasing the IP from your router (or PC if you don%26#039;t use a router). Release it before going to bed or work and hopefully someone else will pick it up. Then once you renew your IP later on you%26#039;ll get a new one.|||Change your internal IP all you want, it wont matter. People dont see you with the IP you see...such as 192.168.1.100 or whatever. The IP the world sees you with is your external IP which is handled by your ISP. So changing your internal IP does NOTHING!!! As for DNS, that doesnt matter either.

Overall, you%26#039;re kinda outta luck unless you change providers.

Need help with Linux Ubuntu internet connection!?

Hey, we just had a problem at home with our internet connection where we had to alter our DNS settings in order to hook our computers up online. How do I get hold of DNS settings/MX Records of my domain name?

I am trying to change the company who hosts my domain name and I am being asked for the DNS settings/MX Records but I have no idea how I get hold of them.|||Either your web host will have access to it or the company you registered your domain name through. Either login or have your host access your DNS records. You don%26#039;t have to change domain registrars even though you are switching hosting companies as long as your domain name is registered with someone else.|||You can use http://www.magic-net.nl/dns-lookup.php to find all your DNS records.|||The company you are transferring to should be able to request that information from your current provider. You may have to send a letter to both to inform them of the right for the new provider to get that information, though usually it%26#039;s not necessary.

Otherwise, check with your current provider - there should be a login/user account somewhere on their company web pages, where you can log in and read your DNS records

Is there any way to connect above two networks so that we may access all the computers existing on both the networks. Shall we require a router for that.

Or it may be achieved by putting IPs in DNS server address preffered IP and alternate server address IP ie. starting IP our network in preferred and other networks starting IP as alternate.

i did try to connect the networks with a Ethernet wire through the vacant ports of existing switches and changing DNS settings but was unsuccessful.

Kindly assist please.|||My understanding of this is that the easiest way to do this is to have both networks in the same IP block. Set router1 in building 1 to 10.1.1.1 for example and have the DNS turned on.

Then put a switch or turn off DNS in router2 in building 2. Run an ethernet wire from one of the LAN ports on router1 to the WAN port in the switch or router2. Router1 will reassign IP addresses to all units in both groups. You will have to turn off all computers and restart them one at a time.

Another choice is to set router2 at 10.1.250.1 and turn its DNS on. Still run the ethernet wire from a LAN router1 port to the WAN port in router2. This will assign numbers 10.1.1.2 up (you can limit this to perhaps 100 computers) for the building 1. This will assign 10.1.250.2 up to computers in building 2.|||I will recommend you purchase two routers. Two Cisco 2600 routers (as an example only) could be configured to accomplish your task. Without routers your two networks can not communicate with each other.

Altering the DNS will not help either in that scenario.

Example: Router 1 Location 1

You set up a network. 10.1.241.x subnet 255.255.248.0 (10.1.241.x/21)

You would configure R1 to that network but then you would also add another network to connect the two routers together - 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0

Now - 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0 is going to connect to router two like such: 10.1.1.2 255.255.255.0 (notice host on first router is 1 and 2nd router is 2 )

You would repeat the process on the second router but you would use (obviously) the IP%26#039;s that pertain to that routers network.

NOT EXACT but here is an idea on Cisco router:

I%26#039;m using different IP scheme too.

R1#: interface fa0/0

ip addr 192.168.1.1 255.255.248.0

router rip

network 192.168.1.1

network 10.1.0.0

no shutdown

R2# interface fa0/0

ip addr 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0

router rip

network 10.1.0.0

If i was going to configure this network I would I would create a DHCP pool on the Router and configure it so that you have a flat sub net of 255.255.255.0 to combine both networks into one. Also to manage the switch you could if you want have a HTTP server configure or telnet in to the switch through a command prompt to look at the managed ports interfaces..

My computer's DNS settings?

My computer, laptop, Wii, and notebook cannot retrieve my DNS settings automatically, I have to set them myself by looking at my service providers thing. When setting up a dedicated mail server, how should I set up my DNS settings on the primary and new server?

Concerning the mx record, that is already being managed by a 3rd party name service provider. It will not have to change since we are not getting a new external IP address. A representative from that company, though, said that some DNS settings will have to change on my end to make sure that mail is routed properly to the new server instead of the old (primary) server where we are currently set up using different mail server software. (We are transitioning from MailEnable to MS Exchange Server 2007).

Can anyone offer any advice concerning these DNS settings? Or do you have any other useful tips to help me have a smoother transition? (I didn%26#039;t install our first mail server, and this is my first time installing Exchange Server).

Thanks,

Riven|||Riven,

Non-microsoft DNS servers that are authoratative on your network must support 2 DNS standards; service resource records and the DNS dynamic update protocol.

Outlined in RFC 2052, a service resource record (SRV RR) is a type of DNS record that enables DNS to recognize multiple servers in a single domain and to locate commonly used TCP/IP services that are associated with specific servers. SRV RRs allow a DNS server to generate a list of network servers that provide TCP/IP services and the protocols supported by those servers, and to determine a preferred server for a specific service, such as Microsoft Exchange.

The SRV record is formatted to include information about the service that is provided by a server, the domain that is serviced by a server, and the protocol used by the server.

The DNS Dynamic Update Protocol is outlined in RFC 2136 and enables information in a DNS server to be automatically updated, i.e., enabling a W2K Pro workstation to update its DHCP-leased IP address

The last piece of advice I can give you is to trust your software. MS Exchange is pleasantly intuitive and forgiving as long as your ducks are in a row. By that I mean your primary DNS server is (or should be) the authoratative server for that zone. This means that all changes to the zone, the creation of address (A) resource records, new SRV resource records, and so forth must be made on that DNS server.

You have the option to create one or more backup DNS servers, called secondary DNS servers, for a primary DNS server. A secondary contains a copy of the primary%26#039;s zone database, but is not used for administration.

Make sure that you complete two steps in the windows 2k server environment. First, configure W2K DNS zones in a domain particularly the forward and reverse lookup zones, to accept dynamic updates by opening the DNS tool in administrative tools, displaying the zone and its child objects in the tree, displaying the child objects under the domain, right clicking the domain under the zone, and clicking properties. Second, if you%26#039;re using DHCP Riven, configure it to dynamically updateDNS or to have clients perform the dynamic update. To configure DHCP, open the DHCP tool in the Administrative Tools, right-click the DHCP server in the tree, click properties, and click the DNS tab. Please don%26#039;t be offended if I%26#039;ve repeated a lot of what you already know, I just meant to cover all the bases. Good luck.|||Hope this helps?

Ok GPO%26#039;s are set on the domain controller and are attached to active directory container objects like OU%26#039;s or groups,, in fact from what ur explaining it sounds more like ur in a work group model than a domain and if thats the case u can%26#039;t apply GPO%26#039;s to others PC%26#039;s only to urs ,, if u r in a domain environment,, someone has seriously confused ur set up
